Davis Hit & Run Development

Jamal_and_halema
There is a development in the Davis Hit and Run Case. You know there’s so much to the story, if you’ve followed it on ABC 7 or our website. Davis Police arrested a sixteen-year-old girl late on a school night in her pajamas for a minor fender bender, even though her mother insisted she was driving at the time, she didn't feel a collision, and the family had already paid for repairs to the other car. The family believes they were targeted by the Davis Police because they are Muslim. A judge dismissed the case against the girl; then, Yolo County prosecutors took the unusual step of presenting all the evidence to the local newspaper. The Davis Enterprise posted audio of police interviews that contained private, personal information not only of the family, but also witnesses in the case. We’re talking about home addresses, unlisted phone numbers, birthdates, drivers license numbers and more.

Attorneys for the family have just filed a claim against the City of Davis and Yolo County, the precursor to filing a lawsuit. It provides the most detailed description yet of what happened, and what the police and prosecutors may have done wrong.
