The Invisible Reporter

I’ve just gotten off the air, and we’re already getting calls and e-mails asking about my interaction with San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom today. It was quite odd – haven’t seen anything like it in my time as a reporter. We called the mayor’s office this morning asking for comment on our investigation into patient deaths at Laguna Honda Hospital. We never heard back, so we went to a Newsom event in the Mission District. The mayor said he would answer all reporters’ questions on any topic after the event, and we waited patiently as he discussed problems at Critical Mass Friday night. As you’ll see on the video below, two minutes pass and then we ask about the life and death issues of Laguna Honda. Newsom’s answer? To pretend like I wasn’t there. After you watch it, I’d like to hear what you have to say – yes, I’m sure some of my blog’s regulars will take their shots, but it’s important for us to keep you involved in our newsgathering process.

Nice job, Dan. How the heck do the other reporters see that happen and not ask their own questions? Is it a totally exclusive story to Channel 7?

I understand about competition but sometimes, the right thing to do is help your colleague and screw the competition.

I once asked Ralph Nader and John Hagelin (3rd party candidates in 2000 presidential election) about UFOs. And they both stood there and answered the question. Although, I could see they weren't thrilled.

Pretty sad to see a Mayor walk away like that. That's how a child reacts.

The guy has one hell of an ego. I'll take any questions you reporters have just not yours. What is he running from or trying to avoid? Yes, you do need answer the question GAVIN, your the mayor and there's been another death at one of your hospitals! At least address the question.

Conservatives answer questions on mainstream media, non-Fox, good, bad or indifferent. Rangel and others appear on Fox frequently and live to tell about. I don't agree with them politically and I seldom see four Libs with a "token" Conservative trying to hold his head above water with 8 other hands trying to prevent him from breathing; most times Fox has at least some token balance, one on one unless you count O'Reilly as three!
