Bernie Ward is spending more time out of the house lately. As a condition of bail for the federal child pornography charges he faces, Ward is still confined to his home with electronic surveillance – he can’t even go into his backyard. But, Ward’s attorney filed motions – and the judge agreed – to allow him to attend church on Sundays. He’ll also be allowed to travel to Lake Natomas this month to watch his college-age daughter compete in the national rowing championships, and he’ll be allowed to attend his son’s high school graduation.
On his weeknight KGO Radio show and his Sunday morning program “God Talk”, Bernie Ward often spoke about his time as a Catholic priest. That’s the focus of a new I-Team investigation coming up Thursday on ABC 7 News at 6 and 11.

Mr. Ward is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Why can't it be true that Ward was role playing for book research he was working on? There is no evidence that his children are in danger.

You can disbelieve that, but it does not make him guilty. Legally Bernie is innocent. That is fact. Is is really innocent? I don't know but I'm willing to hear his side and let the facts of both sides be heard in a fair process. It seems you are not willing to do that. So its ironic indeed that you talk about "America hating, etc." You seem not to know that very basics of American values (the non-fascist variety).
If you had been paying attention, you would know this is not a case of pedophilia as there is not a hint, as explained by newspapers and such of Bernie exploiting children. Bernie was writing a book, a book he talked about on the air a few times on hypocrisy.
Bernie wanted to share with others the hypocrisy of the republican religious right were also involved in child porn along with the other behaviors we have seen. Bernie is also a journalist and using his experience in journalism went online and investigated by pretending he was into child porn and exchanged a few images - there he was busted. Bernie's home was then raided in 2004 because of the bust and not a hint of child porn was found. From what I understand, those involved in child porn do it habitually and obsessively - so other evidence would have been found. Bernie's wife is a pediatrician - if Bernie was into child porn she would have connected the dots and left him.
The feds know Bernie IS NOT into child porn, they left him alone for 3 to 4 years before the charges were brought against him, but they are going after him as he broke the letter of the law while exchanging images - the intent does not matter. I can not think of a nicer, honorable, generous, talented person as Bernie to fall into this hideous pit... as some like yourself want to make this what it is not.
Bernie NOW has a book to write and it will be a best seller.

Is the first chapter going to be about him fantasizing about his 14 year old son's penis? What about masturbating in front of his daughter and writing sick s--t about a specific friend of hers? Pat Robertson didn't make Bernie commit the crime he's already admitted to. But look at the bright side of all this . After all, he wanted Bush & Cheney hung from the nearest tree for war crimes but they never had a trial. The great Karl Rove was, according to the fat child mollester, guilty of releasing the name of a "covert" CIA agent. Again, no trial and in the end no charges or indictments. If Bernie didn't rape his kids yet, thank God this stuff came to light. It's like Bush's brilliant "preemptive war". Your responses have been non-sequiturs--not logical. This has nothing to do with Rush L., or others. You said that Bernie claims that "Bush & Cheney are to be hung from the nearest tree." Can you support that claim? I believe that Mr. Ward is in fact opposed to capital punishment. So I believe you are fabricating nonsense. If not, please provide the evidence to support your claims. I will also point out that Mr. Wards views--even if true--are not relevant here. Its a red-herring for you to bring that up.
You have failed to answer the question about why do you think its not possible or plausible for Mr. Ward to have been role playing? As I argue above, there are several facts which do not fit in with the view that he is a pedefile. How do you reconcile them with your belief that he is?

Guys, could we cut it out with the Bush-Cheney-Rove talk? This is about a talk-show host & his indictment, not political figures. What I still don't understand is why his family WANTS to be around him, never mind his being allowed to be around them. I would so not have wanted to be around my Dad if he had said such things about me, & they had become public. I would be humiliated & heartbroken beyond belief. He must be an excellent salesmen: must have sold his family not just on the research but on the supposed justifiable reasons for bringing their identities into this. That will be his new career: sales.

I guess it never occurred to you that maybe Bernie's family wants to be around him because they are in a position to know better than you about the veracity of the charges against him, and his defense? His daughter came out strongly in support of her Dad's complete innocence.
I still don't see anyone explaining why its not possible that Bernie was just innocently role playing as part of his research? There is no evidence that he involved his children in any way. Chatting online in a role play where he talks about his children as part of that, is not involving his actual children in any real life situation. They were not a part of this.
This was a professional adult doing research and pretending to be someone else on the internet. Nothing strange there. And to be convincing one must play the part. I guess he was convincing enough to fool many of you who do NOT know Bernie the way his family and close friends do.

No matter what these pathetic Bernie Ward supporters try to contrive, it is clear that Benie Ward is guilty of breaking Child Pornography Laws. Not only did he possess it, but he also distributed it. His role-playing or research (ha ha) has no bearing and is not a defense for his crime. My guess is he will be found guilty of the crimes as charged.
And his chance of being back on the air with KGO is slim and none. Although there are some sicko, perverts that would still love to hear him ridicule others as he himself is being ridiculed now.

But since you are here and apparently have more information than anyone else posting, perhaps you could explain or give some sense of why Bernie, out to catch and expose what he thought was

Why he (Bernie) would have ended up in long sessions with this particular, seemingly isolated, woman in Oakdale?
How in any way imaginable was she a connection or link to the Republican religious right and their particular involvement in child porn?
Because, without some link to those Republicans and religious right wingers, why would Bernie be spending any time at all role playing with this woman? What purpose would it serve in his quest to find Republican hypocrisy?
I've not seen nor heard any suggestion at all, from the lawyers, Bernie, you, or anyone else that this Oakdale women was connected to Republicans, the religious right, nor anyone or anything else, other than the internet.
Regardless of whether he was thinking about a book, or writing a book, if this woman is in no way connected to those targeted by the book, then the chats with her seem disconnected to any legal defense related to the book.

Good question, but since we have not heard the "other side" yet, we can only speculate. Bernie says he would love to tell us, and explain all this, but his lawyers are not letting him. So we are left mostly in the dark.
As far as guessing, let me speculate. Do we know for a fact that this Oakdale women and her associate, or chat website she was involved with, was not connected in some way to other people with whom Bernie was looking to get his foot into? No, we don't know the details. We don't know Bernie's thinking, his plan, since this was kept secret.
Maybe he needed to establish some trusted contacts wit this women who can then be his reference into this cyber adult chat world that would then allow him to connect with other parities more connected to this subject matter of his book? Perhaps he was just getting a first hand experience with someone--anyone--involved in this sex under-culture? Maybe she was not connected in any way to any republicans, but maybe that was not necessary if Bernie felt a need to user her a means to that larger end? We don't know.
But I am wiling to give Bernie the benefit of the doubt, and point out other facts that do not fit the profile of the person into child porn. I don't believe it, based on all the evidence thus far. Once Bernie explains himself, I'm sure your question will be fully answered.

I do have another question that arises though. Later on, after he gains this Oakdale experience, then how does he find the Republicans chatting about child porn? It would seem that wouldn't be the first topic of discussion and you might find yourself spending hours of time talking about child porn with someone who turned out to be a Democrat or a declines-to-state registered voter.
I don't know, it seems you could spend hour after hour for months chatting about child porn before you found just the right Republican to do the book research on.
But I guess thats all part of journalism and book writing. Lots of investigating to unearth the real facts.
