New Details of Bernie Ward’s Crime

We’re posting the sentencing report filed by federal prosecutors in the child pornography case against former KGO Radio host Bernie Ward, for tonight's I-Team update. A warning – it contains the most graphic descriptions yet of 100 images the FBI found in Ward’s e-mail account -- mostly girls from three to nine years of age; some being bound, gagged and brutally sexually abused. You’ll also see actual copies of the Instant Messaging sessions between Ward and “Sexfairy”. You’ll recall he formed an on-line relationship with the mother from Oakdale and sent her a child porn image; she called the police.

Ward is set for sentencing next Thursday, and prosecutors are asking for nine years. It’s normal procedure in such cases for supporters to write the judge asking for leniency, and for victims, their families and concerned citizens to write asking for the most severe sentence. So, we were curious to read the letters which are usually part of the public file.

Clerks at the federal building told me this week I couldn’t see the case file because the judge on the case, Vaughn R. Walker, had it. I contacted his personal clerk, who then spoke with the judge. She called back to say Judge Walker has received more than a hundred letters for this case – an unusually high number – and that the judge wanted to keep them private because of the sensitive information some of them contain. I couldn’t get any idea what percentage of the letters come from Ward’s supporters, compared to his detractors.

Ward is scheduled to be remanded into custody next Thursday. We’ll be there and report back to you.

I'm sure he plans to show up at Susan Prather's funeral (or it may be a memorial service) on the same day as his sentencing. I'm quite sure that's why the service was scheduled for 8/28. I don't understand about how loosely he's been monitored. Why does such a person get so many privileges to roam recreationally with an ankle bracelet? Hell, even rich, better-known Martha Stewart was under stricter surveillance than BW. He got to see at least one sporting event of one daughter + his son's graduation (I'm sure the son just loved being embarrassed by his presence)+ he was seen at the Century Theater recently on Junipero Serra in Daly City + now he'll probably get to go to the Prather service.

Re: Bernie Ward, I do not think any sentence is long enough for this scum bag! Bernie Ward will suffer greatly at the hands of the prison population whether it be 5 yrs or 9 yrs. This shows those who are in the media- TV,newspapers and radio and hide behind the First Amendment as well as California's anti-slapp law are vial. I remember a channel 7's reporter in 07 was caught on a home owners camera in Burlingame tearing down signs from in his neighborhood because that person was running againts his wife. Re; Jackie O, Sorry about you and your sister. Have you read all the apoligists for this guy in past blogs? The way his victims were minimalized or discarded because people wanted him back on the radio for political reasons? They (his victims) were treated as exceptible sacrifices because what he was doing was for the better good or whatever. They weren't abused kids. They were just meat to feed Bernie so he could continue his attacks on people they didn't agree with. Their compassion never goes beyond their fat, kiddie raping hero.
