At a meeting this week, the department heads of San Francisco city government got the word from Mayor Gavin Newsom they have to cut 25-percent from their budgets. That’s leading to layoffs at many departments. We highlighted San Francisco’s Recreation and Park Department where 72 assistant recreation directors are losing their jobs (the ones actually running neighborhood programs), while the number of managers has grown over the past few years.
Interim Rec & Park Director Jared Blumenfeld counters that he’s cutting five unfilled manager’s positions – the only manager who’s actually losing her job had filed a harassment complaint against the department.
We want to provide some of the documents we’ve obtained under the San Francisco Sunshine Ordinance. Here’s the list of salaries for Rec and Park managers. By the way, the former general manager Yomi Agunbiade made $198,025 for his last year of service; interim director Blumenfeld makes a bit less than that in his combined role at Rec and the SF Department of the Enviroment.
And, here’s the list showing how the city has hired managers over the last five years.
